Become a Certified Pilates Mat Instructor.

The Flow Method™ Mat Pilates Certification is a comprehensive in-person teacher training program. Rooted in Return to Life Through Contrology by Joseph Pilates, this program prepares students to teach classical Mat Pilates with integrity, safety, and professional readiness.

Program Overview

The Flow Method Mat Certification is a fully structured, in-person educational pathway — not a collection of independent workshops. It guides students through theoretical study, embodied personal practice, supervised observation, and apprentice teaching.

Curriculum

The Flow Method™ Mat Pilates Certification Program is delivered entirely in person.

History of Pilates
Students complete in-person study of the life, lineage, and philosophy of Joseph Pilates based on Return to Life Through Contrology. Learning outcomes are supported by written quizzes and assessments.

Anatomy
Students complete in-person study of anatomy, biomechanics, posture, alignment, and breathing mechanics as they apply to the Pilates Method. Learning outcomes are supported by written quizzes and assessments.

Classical Pilates Mat Repertoire
Instruction includes all 34 original Mat exercises from Return to Life Through Contrology, delivered fully in person. Includes:

  • Sequencing, cueing, and safety principles
  • Progressions and regressions

Special Populations
Students receive in-person training in adapting the Mat repertoire for special populations, including:

  • Prenatal & postnatal
  • Seniors
  • Injury modification
  • Post-rehabilitation considerations

Observation Hours
Students complete 50 supervised in-person observation hours under the guidance of Flow Method-approved instructors.

Practice Teaching (Apprenticeship)
Students complete 40 supervised in-person apprentice teaching hours under the guidance of Flow Method-approved instructors.

Self-Practice Hours
Students complete 40 in-person personal practice hours as specified by The Flow Method to develop embodied mastery of the Pilates Mat repertoire.

Instructional Format

In-person: Teacher and students are physically present simultaneously at the same location.

Prerequisite
Pilates History is a required prerequisite for enrollment in this course. Students must complete the Pilates History course before registering for Pilates Fundamentals.
